ALOM software is pre-installed on the server and is active at the first power on. Although normally you will not need to download this software, it is provided here as a convenience should you ever have to reinstall the feature or wish to upgrade to a newer version.

The online Help documentation  that is available for download may be a later version than the Help documentation shipped on the Server Documentation CD. It is recommended that you download the latest version, in order to have the most up-to-date and accurate Help documentation.

For proper setup be sure to read the detailed information in README file contained in the software download.  It is always important to check for the latest ALOM patches at SunSolve.sun.com.

Guys,

I'm falling back to you all, even though I know I should be able to find this answer out on google. Anyway, we've got a new SunFire V210 with ALOM. I've plugged the Serial Mgt port into my (shudder) Avocent Console Server and I can access things just fine.

But if I send a standard Sun break (^ecl0), I get the messages:

BREAK Requested - Access Denied

And the damm thing just sits there running through various steps. I can't send a break no matter what, though I admit I just did set a password for the admin user on the ALOM board just now.

I can get to the SC> prompt on the ALOM, and then send a break command, but it's friggin awkward. Anyone have a clue on how to disable this stuff, or do I need to just not use this port and instead work with the regular serial port?

Just to make it clear, I'm plugged into the RJ45 serial management port on the back. There's a DB9 serial port, I should try that too I guess...

Thanks,
John

Please verify the following:

1. Network cable is properly attached to NET MGT port on back panel of server (leftmost RJ-45 socket) and physical link is established. The green LED on NET MGT port should be turned on or blinking.

2. NET MGT port is connected to proper ethernet switch, i.e. you should check whether you can reach this port physically from machine you are connecting from (from your workstation).

3. Network settings are correct, i.e. IP packets are routed properly from your workstation. If you not sure please provide output from the command

/usr/platform/`uname -i`/sbin/scadm show | grep netsc

and network settings of your workstation. Here is sample output from my V240:

# /usr/platform/`uname -i`/sbin/scadm show | grep netsc
netsc_tpelinktest="true"
netsc_dhcp="false"
netsc_ipaddr="172.17.250.65"
netsc_ipnetmask="255.255.0.0"
netsc_ipgateway="172.17.255.254"

and my Windows workstation:

C:\>ipconfig

Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Local area connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : censored.ru
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 172.17.2.165
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 172.17.255.254

5. DHCP is not used for SC configuration (netsc_dhcp="false", see before)

6. There are no firewall between your workstation and V210 or firewall, if it exists, allows IP packets to pass from any port of your worksation's network interface to SC IP address port 23 and in reverse direction.

hey guys
thanks for all your replies ...
well i am still having trouble ...
